Get out of the pumpkins.

Do you remember Linus Van Pelt?

He was one of the main characters in Charlie Brown, the Charles Schulz cartoon, and he believed that "The Great Pumpkin" rose from the pumpkin patch on October 31st every year to bring candy and treats to all the deserving little boys and girls in the world.

Linus saw himself as one of those children deserving of candy and treats from this mythical being because he met the two criteria it takes to be rewarded: he was sincere and he believed with all of his heart in The Great Pumpkin.

Every year he went to the pumpkin patch on Halloween night to wait for The Great Pumpkin to rise up and deliver those treats and candy to children like him.

And every year he left disappointed.

He never saw The Great Pumpkin.

He never got the candy and treats.

On top of that, every year he was mocked by his friends (clearly undeserving of the gifts of The Great Pumpkin) who came home from trick or treating with bags full of candy.

We are all Linus.

Most of us have something we want in our lives that always seems to elude us. Something you desperately want; some form of recognition, compensation, new job, new client, new relationship... something.

And yet, you aren’t doing anything about it, except hoping this year will be different.

Being “sincere and faithful” isn’t enough to get Linus candy and recognition from The Great Pumpkin.

He needs to get out of the pumpkin patch.
